The Secret Society Of The Pink Crystal Ball Book Review And ~~Giveaway~~

In a world where nothing is certain, a little magic couldn't hurt...right?

When Erin Channing's favorite aunt dies, Erin is bequeathed a pink crystal ball and a set of weird instructions. Granted, Aunt Kiki (aka Aunt Kooky) always lived "outside the box." But now Erin and her two best friends are convinced that the pink crystal ball holds the key to their future-or at least the key to getting dates...

Consider Your Fate to Be Sealed . . .

Absolute knowledge is not unlimited; let the planets be your guide to the number.
There are sixteen ways to die, but four of them you will never see.
The future belongs to you alone. Other voices will be disappointed.
One rotation is as far as you can see. Only uncertainty lies beyond.

This is a really cute book. It took me back to the days when I read Nancy Drew!!!

Poor Erin has a plain life. She is a good student and is given the chance to go to Italy if she can write an interesting essay.

Of course she has nothing to write about because to her, her life is boring.

When Erin learns that her favorite Aunt has passed away, she is distraught. At the funeral, Erin is given a gift from her Aunt's friend. It is a Pink Crystal Ball that the Aunt left her.

Erin soon learns that her life can get very interesting but also very complicated when she starts using the Crystal Balls magical powers.

I really liked this book alot and I think young girls 12-16 would like it too.

Letters From Wheatfield Book Review

Patrick Shannon, author of the young readers' book Viva
Cisco, announces the release of his second work, Letters from Wheatfield. In his newest
book Shannon provides his readers with a delightful treatment of small town quirkiness
as conveyed through the letters of two transplants from Manhattan who have been
assimilated and transmuted by this fictitious Montana community.

Recognizing that Montanans have a reputation for spinning tall tales, in Letters from
Wheatfield Shannon treads teasingly on the tenuous line that divides those fabrications
from the facts that originally inspired them. His readers will enjoy trying to determine
which parts of these whimsical tales are true and which parts are purely contrived fiction.

Among their many amusing epistles about life in isolated Wheatfield, the town's two
New Yorkers relay to their cousin back home such remarkable tales as a 4H project that
produces a mutant Brussels sprout, the hilarious story of a senior citizens' outing with a
group of hell-raising bikers, and the surprising "facts" behind Albert Einstein's shocking
plagiarism of a Montana boy's work.

Letters from Wheatfield asks its readers, "What do you do if you live in a small rural
town, dauntingly far from the nearest city's amusements, and what resources do you have
to spice up your existence?" The answer is not always pretty, but it is always one that
will bring readers many laughs.

About the book:

Letters from Wheatfield by Patrick Shannon
ISBN: 978-1-4327-5705-2
Publisher: Outskirts Press
Date of publish: May 12, 2010
Pages: 234
S.R.P.: $14.95

About the author:

Patrick Shannon, also the author of Viva Cisco, currently resides in Conrad, Montana.
Born and raised in Southern California, he attended East Carolina and Oklahoma
Universities as well as UCLA. He is a member of Phi Kappa Phi scholarship society.
After serving in the U.S. Coast Guard, Shannon worked thirty-three years for a major oil
company and traveled in Asia, the Middle East and the U.S., acquiring a wide variety of
rich experiences.

I have never read a book like this before!!!

Patrick Shannon writes this book as if he is writing letters to an author who is writing a book about his small town.

The stories that Patrick comes up with about this fictional town are roll on the floor hilarious!!

I had to stop reading, find my Husband and read him many chapters. They are just too funny not to share.

I love the way news travels through the "System" especially when it travels through the Post Office!!!

If you want a non stop, laugh out load, must share with friends book, then Letters From Wheatfield is it!!!

Stan's Leap Book Review

What would you do if you found yourself stranded in Paradise? Newlyweds Jenny and Stan are eager to travel before they begin building their family. After seeing an intriguing ad in a travel magazine, Jenny arranges a vacation to a remote Pacific island. The advertisement promises a completely authentic Polynesian experience. Despite an arduous journey to reach their paradise, they are excited to immerse themselves in the history, adventure, and culture of the Polynesian islands as they were before contact with the western world.

Led by the zealous Kimo and his beautiful partner Nani, Henderson Island first appears as idyllic as hoped. The island's natural environment promises to provide for all their needs without modern materials and technology. Several days after arriving, however, an unusual storm disrupts their routine. And when the weekly flight back to civilization fails to arrive, tempers flare and deep rifts among the guests are formed.

Day after day passes with no sign of life beyond Henderson Island's shores. As days extend into weeks and months, Jenny, Stan and the other vacationers are left searching for explanations, rescue, and finally a new reality.

About the Author

Tom Duerig, a physicist by training, is the president of a medical device company. While he has a long history of scientific writings, this is his first work of fiction. His hobbies include sailing and studying the history of the South Pacific, two intricate elements of this novel.

I tried to imagine myself living on an island with just my Husband and a couple other strangers for the rest of my life without technology. I couldn't do it!!

I need my family, friends, computers, phones, TVs etc!!!

Jenny and Stan are in need of another vacation! When Jenny sees an ad for a new island retreat, where you go back in time to live a simple life, she just has to go. Stan agrees. All though Jenny is pregnant (and not supposed to go) they set out for an adventure of a life time.

I don't want to say too much about what happens, because I really want you to read this.

Tom Duerig is an exceptional writer. He kept me interested and intrigued the entire time.

What the poor people go through on the island is incredible, and unfortunately possible.

You get to see what living with one "leader" can do, and how certain people get used to the idea of never being rescued

Tom's ending bothered me just a little. I understand it, but I don't quite agree with it!!

I thought this was an extremely well written book, that I recommend to anyone.

Painkiller Ghosts Book Review

Author J. Marc Harding announces the release of his latest
work of contemporary fiction, Painkiller Ghosts.

Painkiller Ghosts follows the reclusive Thyme X Exler, thirty-something and under motivated,
as he fights to reclaim his life from hard drugs after the overdose of his longtime girlfriend.
Thyme moves back home to his childhood home to search for serenity and sobriety while living
with his single and outgoing mother, Suzanne. Thyme fights his addiction to illegal drugs, only
to find himself on prescriptions drugs as the result of an injury. He becomes an accidental
witness to a deadly incident which changes the direction of his life. His mother, in the
meantime, is being stalked by a man who was once a coworker, which results in Thyme taking
the matters into his own hands, with kitchen utensils.

Thyme attempts to solve his mother's problems aggravates the situation more, and the man
begins showing up in the lives of Thyme's female friends, often with disturbing consequences.
At the same time, Thyme is being followed by the jingle of a dog's collar which he cannot see,
but which sounds like his dog that died months ago. Thyme beings a cycle of wondering if he is
going crazy from medication and loneliness, or if he is in fact seeing and hearing ghosts; he also
beings a journey of recovering from all of his addictions and lost relationships, while it seems
life is getting darker and darker around him, both in his personal life and the world at large.

About the book:
Painkiller Ghosts, by J. Marc Harding
ISBN: 978-1-4500-4213-0
Publisher: Xlibris Corporation
Date of publish: March 2010
Pages: 208
S.R.P.: $19.99

Painkilling Prose (lit blog): http://jmarcharding.blogspot.com/

About the author:
J. Marc Harding graduated from James Madison University with a concentration in creative
writing. He lives with his wife and daughters in Richmond, Va. Along with playing the double
bass in various bands in Richmond, his resume ranges from public relations writer to bowling
alley photographer, from dog groomer to banker. His fiction and poetry has appeared in
Washington, DC's WordWrights magazine, Richmond, Va's Throttle magazine, and James
Madison University's Gardy Loo! magazine.

I was very depressed by this book.

Well first things first, I thought the plot sounded great. Thymothy has it rough. His girlfriend and dog both die. Thymothy is into drugs and has just had a hard life recently.

He moves back in with his Mother to try to get some balance and stability in his life.

When he does go back, he starts to hear ghosts, which he calls Painkiller Ghosts.

I really thought this plot sounded great. There was just one problem.

The Author flashes back sooooooo many times, I couldn't keep up.

He switches back to when the girlfriend, Maria was alive, then Thymothy years in the future, then back to when Maria was alive but three years earlier then the last time, etc.

It really took away from the story. I understand when flashbacks are needed in some stories, but there are many ways an Author can make the transition much easier. Separate chapters is my favorite.

The Crystal Heart Book Review

Children's author Michelle Nicole Martin announces
the release of Princess and Missy's Magical Adventures, The Crystal Heart. Martin's
upbeat story, with enchanting illustrations by internationally recognized artist Richa
Kinra, teaches children that love conquers all and that there is always a solution to a
problem.

Princess is a young poodle with a loving spirit who's "cute, chubby and short." She finds
herself homeless one day, though, after her family suddenly disappears. Not one to give
up, Princess follows her own loving heart, helps a young lady and saves children's lives,
and is ultimately awarded the Crystal Heart by Missy, the magical butterfly.

Together they continue on many enchanted adventures, rescuing others from despair and
being careful only to avoid Jaith, the Joy Stealer, and not be overcome by her wicked
plans.

"The lesson I am trying to convey," says author Martin, "is even if all seems lost, when
you walk through the pain, unexpected gifts and inner strength appear." Kinra's
illustrations embellish this message in Martin's text with their simple, aesthetic images
that quickly catch children's attention while still conveying the emotion and character of
the story.

The second children's book in this series, The Ruby Door, is scheduled to be released
soon.

About the book:
Princess and Missy's Magical Adventures by Michelle Nicole Martin
ISBN: 978-1-4327-4954-5
Publisher: Outskirts Press
Date of publish: Jan 15, 2010
Pages: 55
S.R.P.: $10.95

About the author:
Michelle Nicole Martin grew up in California and started writing poetry when she was
thirteen years old. When she was thirty-one, she began writing children's stories and her
dog, Princess, was the inspiration for The Crystal Heart.

Richa Kinra is the internationally published illustrator of several children's books.
They collaborated to bring Princess' story to life with a perfect combination of story and
art so they could delight readers of all ages.

This book was kind of sad!!!

It's all about a puppy named Princess.

One day as she is at the Lake with her Family, she gets separated and can't find them.

She then has to live on the streets.

Princess does learn to help people and things do get better when she meets Missy (her butterfly friend) and the others.

It's just weird that she never sees her family again!!

This is a cute story for kids between 3-7 years old.

Amazing Race Fantasy Game Week 12

It's hard to believe the season is over all ready!!

Brook and Claire's outfits are kind of scary!!!

The Port Of Long Beach was huge!!

I would be shaking with the bungee jumping. I don't like heights either!!

Poor Nat. I would be soooo scared!!!

Wow Brook was a tad over the top with her screaming!!

I would love to ride a helicopter!!

Decorating the floats sound like fun!! I love to decorate.

Ouch for Kat having to redo the roses because she forgot to put water in them!!

Figuring out that Sancho guy sounded tough!!

Poor Jill and Thomas got a really bad driver!! That can break you right there.

Nat and Kat had a good driver and the right idea calling whoever they called.

I love the Trivia games. That is my favorite part of the ending!!

That is cool getting to see Bob Eubanks, but boy did he get old!!! lol

Picking the peoples faces has got to be tough. You only see them for a short while!

Waiting in traffic would drive me nuts!! I would be sooooo antsy!!

Congrats for Nat and Kat!! They are the first all girls team to win!!

I feel bad for Jill and Thomas. It stinks when you get a bad driver. At least they won a lot of first place positions, so they did get something!!

So on that note I need to say CONGRATULATIONS to Vhubler!!! You won the race!!!

I will be emailing you shortly with information on your win!!!

Thank you to everyone who played, and I will see you next season!!!

Deadly Portfolio Book Review

Novelist John J. Hohn today announces the release of
Deadly Portfolio, A Killing in Hedge Funds. Hohn uses his own extensive financial
background to craft the intricate and suspenseful narrative of pithy detective James
Raker's investigation of a killer's silent rampage through the affluent North Carolina
lakeside community of Pelican Bay.

"Something was wrong at the lake, in the ghetto of millionaires, the colony of self-
satisfied.one of their own was dead." Detective Raker, a recent widower, is skeptical
by nature, but his suspicions are fueled by his distrust of those he encounters in his
investigation and by his innate resentment of these smug, privileged pillars of the
community.

Meanwhile financial planner and stockbroker Morrie Clay seems to have been given a
reprieve from discovery of his unauthorized hedge fund trading when the client
mysteriously drowns, but he and his wife Monica -- typical baby boomers easily
frightened by the potential for their own personal financial collapse -- scramble to act
knowing that Morrie's illicit trading activities will ultimately be revealed.

Detective Raker must wend his way through this well drawn cast of upper middle class
characters, a string of unusual deaths and several local authorities all too willing to jump
to "acceptable" conclusions so as to avoid any bad publicity or untoward embarrassment
in this prestigious little community. Only when the killer's third attempt backfires and
claims the wrong victim does Raker's intuitive pursuit begin to pull the final length of
string from this ball of tangled motives and social machinations.

Author Hohn not only provides a timely look behind the scenes at the sometimes
questionable financial world of hedge funds recently made so attractive to affluent baby
boomers, but he also creates for his appreciative readers a good old fashioned mystery
and detective story.

About the book:
Deadly Portfolio by John J. Hohn
ISBN: 978-1-4327-5875-2
Publisher: Outskirts Press
Date of publish: Sept. 27, 2010
Pages: 328
S.R.P.: $18.95

About the author:
John J. Hohn, a South Dakotan by birth, worked over forty years in the financial services
industry and retired in 2007 after seventeen years with Merrill Lynch in Winston-Salem,
North Carolina. He holds an English degree form St. John's University (MN, 1961).
Father of five children, he inherited a stepson in his 1986 marriage to Melinda Folger
McLeod.

This was a great book!!!

John Hohn kept me turning the pages!!

Anyone of us Middle Class Slobs thinks that the Upper Class must have a better life. They are the ones with lots of money, beautiful spouses, and perfect belongings!!

Of course Upper Class has its problems!! Sometimes bigger then ours.

That is the case with the Clays. Morrie Clay makes some bad investment mistakes for a client without her permissions, and has no way to correct the problem.

The only person he tells about his error is his Wife Monica.

Monica takes it upon herself to "correct" the problem.

Like I said, John Hohn keeps you turning the pages to see what happens next. There is a lot of problems that arise!!!

Hell's Kitchen Fantasy Game Week 9

I hate Russell's attitude. He annoys me and I really hope he doesn't win!!

This Challenge where you combine two different countries foods sounds like fun!!

Nona got easy countries. The others foods are going to be tough!!

I loved how Ramsey gave Trev the Fire Extinguisher!!

Poor Trev had a bland dish, Nona had too many ingredients!!

Russell is driving me nuts with that bad attitude. I want to slap him.

Jillian had a tough time with this challenge, but she kicked butt!!! Good for her!!

Ramsey does seem like a nice guy when he isn't in the kitchen!!

All of these people are whiners. That's all they do!!

That was nice that Jillian got to spend time with her family and have a great lunch.

Trev and Russell really need to learn to get along. How is that going to help them win?

I would be able to tell the pecan and walnut mix up. That was easy.

Russell is such a jerk. Trev should have just ignored him with the whole scallop thing.

I wouldn't even know what Celery Root is let alone what it tastes like!! lol

I might be able to tell the difference in fish. I love fish, but I would have to taste it to know.

I would never get the meat difference. That is tough.

Wow Jillian was riding Trev hard. I can understand not liking someone but come on.

That's mean of Ramsey making them decide like that. Of course that is going to be tough.

Trev going home was not a shock. I saw that one coming.

I am mad that Russell made it to the final two. I really do not like him. I hope he doesn't win.

Poor Jillian. She tried really hard. I was hoping that it would be Jillian and Nona.

So on that note I need to say goodbye to Vhubler and Shelley. Thank you both for playing!!

Survivor Fantasy Game Week 13

Naonka and Kelly were idiots for quiting this late in the game. Sooooo stupid!!

I like naming the Chicken Kelly Nay, that was funny!!

I like Chase but I really think he needs to learn who he can and can't trust.

This is a tough challenge for Dan. I don't see him making it through the mud quickly.

Chase kicked butt. He won quickly!!

That isn't good that Chase went back on his word. He shouldn't have said he would take Sash if he didn't mean it.

I do believe that Jane is a tough person to take to the finals, but so is Chase.

Poor Jane. That was mean of the boys to eat the chicken. Especially sense it meant a lot to Jane, but also because the others should have been able to eat it too.

I love how Sash is asking Chase to swear on his Mother. That doesn't mean anything in this game. Remember the guy who lied about his Grandmother dieing?? What was his name?? Johnny something.

Benry is scrambling!! That's funny!!

The gold coin puzzle looks difficult!!

Wow that was great for Sash. Now he is safe for at least two tribal.

Poor Fabio. I think he's funny and I hope he doesn't go home.

I am lost as to who they are going to get rid of. There are so many names being thrown out there.

Interesting with the voting. I was shocked that they were getting rid of Benry.

Wow I wonder who planned that??

So on that note I need to say goodbye to Tara. Thank you for playing

Amazing Race Fantasy Game Week 11

Nick and Vicki are going to have a really tough time this leg!!

That's a little scary going to the border of North Korea.

Can Nat and Kat ask somebody to buy them something (map book) like that??

Wow they just showed all the times Nick was a jerk. I hope she realizes it!!

That would be good for Nick and Vicki to catch up, but I don't think a nine hour difference is going to help!! Ouch!!

South Korea is pretty.

I love White Water Rafting. We did that a couple years ago in Maine and it was sooooo much fun.

I hope that water is warm!!

Going to a Military Base would be interesting.

Those headbands look a lot a like. I would be the one to get punched!!!

Thomas got his pretty quick. That was tough.

Those Soldiers do some awesome kicking tricks to open the wood. That is soooo cool!!

I would have to do the delivery thing. Ice and me do not get along!!

Oh Brook and Claire are in trouble. They didn't listen to the clue that said NO Taxi's!!

I still have my fingers crossed that Nick and Vicki can get back in the race. I don't like Nick, but Vicki deserves a chance!!

I like the guys that Nick and Vicki are following. They seem really nice and funny!!

Jill keeps falling on that ice. That would be me!! Can you skate on your butt and have it count??

All Brook and Claire got was a 30 minute penalty for taking the taxi?? I thought they would have to go back and get to the challenge the right way.

Good for Jill and Thomas. They get to go to Argentina. That is cool!!

At least Nick and Vicki are not giving up. They are still doing the challenges.

So on that note I need to say goodbye to Elie.

French Meadow Gluten-Free Cinnamon Raisin Bread Review

I am not quite sure what Gluten is, but I heard that having Gluten free products is good for you!!!

When I was given the chance to try a French Meadow Bakery product, I choose their Gluten-Free Cinnamon Raisin Bread.

When I was a kid, my Grandmother and Mother made me toast when I wasn't feeling good. That was my comfort food.

I always loved Raisin Bread so this was a no brain-er.

French Meadow's bread was very fresh and had just the right amount of raisins in it. The cinnamon flavor was perfect too!!

We used the bread to make regular toast with butter and french toast. The boys loved the french toast. They ate half a loaf in one sitting!!!

French Meadow Bakery has a wide variety of products from Bread, Bagels, Cookies and Brownies!!

I Am Sooooooo Excited!!!!!

Some of you may have heard me tell you a time or two how much I love Blogging.

But...... there is one thing I love more!! DISNEY WORLD!!!

Now if you put the two together, I would be in heaven!!!

Oh wait they do, and they call it The Disney Social Media Moms Conference.

This past Thursday, 1,000's of Bloggers tried to register for a chance at only 150 spots.

I was one of the people fighting to get in, and keeping my fingers crossed at the same time!!

Once you did get to register, you had to wait for a confirmation email (saying they received your info)

That took a couple hours.

If you were lucky enough to get that, then of course you still had to wait for the "You are going" email (which would come the next day!!)

So I sat and waited to register, got through, waited for the confirmation email, then had to wait to see if I got picked.

24 hrs later, I received an email saying "Welcome to The Social Media Mom's Conference!!"

I get to go, and the best part is that I get to bring my Kids, Husband, and Sister!!!

I have heard a lot of people say how awesome last year was, and I can't wait to go!!!

I am excited to meet all the Mom Bloggers going, but I am also sorry that a lot of people didn't get in. I wish them the best of luck for next year!!!

I will post more info, as the date gets closer.

That was the best Christmas present I could get!!
