Be Thankful For Your Family. November Is National Adoption Month #perfectparent #NAM15 #Ad

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving, and I am very grateful for my family and children.  Family is the true meaning of the Holidays to me.  There are a lot of children who do not have that and it makes me very sad.  Everyone deserves love.  Please remember the poor children that will not be with people they love tomorrow.

November is National Adoption Month and I’m reaching out on behalf of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, AdoptUSKids, and the Ad Council to ask for your help in spreading the word about a new PSA campaign that encourages prospective parents to adopt older youth from foster care.

The theme for National Adoption Month is, "We Never Outgrow the Need for Family." That's because older children and youth still have many big milestones in their life they need a family for.

There are 415,000 children in the U.S. foster care system and 108,000 are waiting to be adopted. AdoptUSKids’ maintains a national photo listing service for children waiting to be adopted. Since the project launched in 2002, more than 25,000 children who were once photo listed on adoptuskids.org have been adopted and nearly 38,000 families have registered to adopt through the website.

Nevertheless, older youth are disproportionately represented – approximately 41 percent of children and youth photo listed on adoptuskids.org are between 15 and 18 years old, but only 17 percent of those adopted have been in this age group

Older youth and teens have lower adoption rates than younger children, and they often wait longer to be adopted. But no matter their age, all kids need a supportive, loving home and the teenage years are a critical period for growth. The new TV PSAs, which were created for the campaign probono, portray a dad giving advice to his teenage daughter after her first breakup, and a mom giving her son a haircut at home. The humorous, lighthearted scenarios aim to overcome fears adoptive parents may have regarding their own imperfections. The PSAs end with the tagline, “You don’t have to be perfect to be a perfect parent,” reassuring prospective parents that even if they are not ‘perfect’, they have the ability to provide the stability and security that older youth in foster care need and deserve.

The PSAs direct audiences to visit adoptuskids.org or to call 1-888-200-4005 (English) or 1-877-236-7831 (Spanish) to receive the latest information about the foster care system and the adoption process.

For more information about adoption, or about becoming an adoptive parent to a child from foster care, please visit www.adoptuskids.orgor visit the campaign’s communities on Facebook and Twitter.

Why Older Youth?
  • All of us – and that includes older youth in foster care who are waiting to be adopted – need and want families throughout life to support us and to share important life events. Learning to drive a car, applying for higher education, and birthday and holiday celebrations are just a few examples of the times in life we need and want to share with family.
  • Older youth are overrepresented in the foster care population, as they generally wait longer to be adopted, and have lower overall adoption rates.
  • On adoptuskids.org, roughly 41 percent of the children and youth actively photolisted are between the ages of 15 and 18 years old. About 58 percent are male. (Most recent stats as of May 31, 2015)
  • Families who adopt older youth, are providing them with the support and stability of a family during a critical period of normal adolescent concerns and additional self-identity issues.
Some of the Misperceptions about Adoption from Foster Care:
  • Adoption is expensive.  Unlike the private adoption of an infant or adopting internationally, there are virtually no costs associated with adoption from the US child welfare system. In addition, the vast majority of youth adopted from foster care are also eligible for monthly adoption assistance up to the level of the foster care rate.

  • You have to be married. You do not have to be married to adopt in most states. Many children have been very successfully adopted by single parents. Single-parent families accounted for 29 percent of all adoptions from foster care in 2014 (AFCARS).

  • You have to have a college degree. Having a high school diploma or college education is not required. What is important is that you are stable, flexible, and compassionate, and that you have a good sense of humor. Most importantly, you must have the support and commitment to raise a child and to be there for him throughout his life.

  • You have to own a home and each child has to have their own room. You can rent your home or live in an apartment or a mobile home so long as your living situation is a stable one.

  • You have to be of child-bearing age to adopt. Experienced parents and empty-nesters are encouraged to adopt. In most instances, you’re eligible to adopt regardless of age, income, marital status or sexual orientation.

  • You can only adopt a child who is the same race and ethnicity as you. Federal law prohibits the delay or denial of an adoptive placement based on the race or ethnicity of a child in U.S. foster care and the prospective parent or parents who are seeking to adopt them. The only exception to this law is the adoption of Native American children where special considerations apply.

  • You can’t adopt if you’re in the military. Military families stationed overseas and within the U.S. are eligible to adopt children from the U.S. foster care system.

Making Home Affordable Foreclosure Assistance Campaign #Ad

**All opinions expressed are 100% my own.  I was compensated for this post.**

It is really sad how hard the housing market was hit just a couple years ago, and how many hard working homeowners are in danger of, or have lost their homes.

I have learned a lot about the HAMP program over the last year, and I truly believe it can help some people.  Check out this information below if you or a friend is in a tough situation.  It could just help you save your home.

I’m reaching out to you on behalf of the Ad Council, the U.S. Department of the Treasury, and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to ask for your support in spreading the word that real help is available to families who are behind on their mortgage payments, or worried about how they will make the next one. Nearly one in 17 homeowners nationwide has fallen behind on his or her mortgage payments, putting them at a higher risk of foreclosure. Homeowners should not feel alone, but many do.

That is why the Making Home Affordable® (MHA) program provides free resources and assistance for distressed homeowners who are working hard at juggling expenses to makes ends meet. Many of these homeowners may be unaware that MHA has expanded its options, and may have a solution available to address their particular financial situation. Moreover, the Hardest Hit Fund (HHF) – available in 18 states and the District of Columbia -- also helps real people get back on their feet and on the road to financial stability in states hit hard by the economic and housing downturn.

Across the country, more than 1.5 million families have already benefited from MHA. Through the Home Affordable Modification Program (HAMP), homeowners have been able to reduce their monthly mortgage payments by approximately $500 each month. That’s real payment relief.

Homeowners across the U.S. need to know help is available now.  If you may be having a tough time making your mortgage payments and don’t know where to turn. Here’s how:
  • Help is available at MakingHomeAffordable.gov:
  •
  • Home Affordable Modification Program (HAMP) - HAMP® is designed to lower monthly mortgage payments, making them more affordable and sustainable for the long-term.
    • HAMP achieves a more affordable payment by adjusting the mortgage interest rate, extending the term of the loan, and reducing or forbearing principal.
    • Homeowners have saved about $500 per month.
    • Through HAMP, homeowners can get help with their primary residence or rental property.
    • Homeowners who owe significantly more than their home is worth (>115% Loan-To Value or LTV ratio) are automatically evaluated for principal reduction.
    • Just for making timely payments, homeowners could earn up to $10,000, which is used to reduce the principal balance of their mortgage.
  • Hardest Hit Fund (HHF)- HHF programs are designed to complement MHA programs and provide assistance to struggling homeowners, like those in the testimonial videos, through modifications, mortgage payment assistance, and transition assistance programs. HHF programs vary state to state, but often include:
    • Mortgage payment assistance for unemployed or underemployed homeowners.
    • Principal reduction to help homeowners get into more affordable mortgages.
    • Funding to eliminate homeowners' second lien loans.
    • Help for homeowners who are transitioning out of their homes and into more affordable places of residence.
  •
    • Through the Federal Making Home Affordable program, many homeowners have received much-needed help to reduce their monthly payments, get mortgage relief, and avoid foreclosure. Homeowners who are struggling to make mortgage payments can call 888-995-HOPE or visit MakingHomeAffordable.gov for free resources and information to help them with their mortgage problems and avoid foreclosure. By calling 888-995-HOPE, homeowners can speak with a housing expert at a HUD-approved counseling agency at no cost, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and identify potential solutions based on their individual circumstances.

Hosting Your Next Holiday Party With Chick Fil A #CFAcatering

**All opinions expressed are 100% my own.  I was not compensated for this post.  I was given a gift card to purchase items for this post.**

In case you hadn't noticed, the Holidays are quickly approaching.  It is scary that Thanksgiving is less then two weeks away now.  My Husband and I spent the last couple days hanging our outside Christmas lights.  We wanted to get them hung before the bad weather started.

With the Holidays come all the fun decorating, and fun parties!!  For us there is also my Husbands and oldest sons birthdays!!  I love to cook, so preparing for all these parties is not a hardship for me, but sometimes I just want a break.  That is where Chick Fil A comes in.  With their terrific catering menu, I can order all the yummy food we need, and I get to enjoy more of the fun instead of slaving over the stove.

Recently we visited our local store and grabbed a feast fit for a king!!

We purchased Chicken Sandwiches, Chicken Salad, Chicken Strips, Chicken Nuggets, and Fruit Salad.  The hardest part was the drive home, and not eating everything!!

Now Ben and I wanted to have a little fun with our food and get into the holiday spirit.  We tried to make a Christmas Tree out of the Chicken Strips.  It didn't come out so well!!  So then I made what I affectionately call my Chicken Bread Men!!  The kids loved them!!

Ok so those didn't come out quite as well as I would have liked either!!  We gave up on the whole food play, and decided it was time to just make our table look festive!!!

We started by adding our favorite restaurant mascot!!

Then we went big with some of our favorite Christmas decorations!!  Look at how pretty this looks!!

Chick Fil A has delicious food and terrific prices.  Let them help you cater your next party.  You won't regret it!!!

Help Raise Awareness For Fire Prevention Month!! #FirePreventionMonth #Ad

**All opinions expressed are 100% my own.  I was compensated for this post.**

Ben and I take our kids camping every year.  It is a ton of fun, and who doesn't love campfires and smores!!  One thing we are very adamant about is making sure that the fire is 100% put out when we are done with it.  We always drown it with water, and then watch it to make sure no sparks are left.  We listen to Smokey the Bear!!

I am reaching out to you on behalf of the Smokey Bear Get Your Smokey Mask!campaign, sponsored by the Ad Council, the U.S. Forest Service and the National Association of State Foresters, to ask for your support in raising awareness for Fire Prevention Month. The sad truth is that nearly 9 out of 10 wildfires are still caused by humans:
  • In 2014 there were 7,933 wildfires caused by lightning, but 55,679 wildfires caused by human error (as reported to the National Interagency Fire Center).
  • In 2014 more than 3.5 million acres burned due to wildfires in the U.S. of those, more than 1.5 million acres burned due to human-caused wildfires.
Although most of us don’t behave this way intentionally, each year we learn of devastating wildfires caused by careless behavior which can impact millions of acres of forest and thousands of homes.

We can also be more responsible in our homes when it comes to fire safety as well. Half of home fire deaths result from fires reported between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m. when most people are asleep. Only one in five home fires was reported during these hours.

How can you help support Fire Prevention Month?

Pledge to be smart when using fire outdoors so you can do your part to prevent wildfires.

Don't forget, Only You Can Prevent Forest Fires!!!

Easy Tortilla Soup Recipe With Colman's Mustard

**All opinions expressed are 100% my own.  I was not compensated for this post.  I was given products to review**

Our history dates back to 1814, a time when King George III was on the throne and Wellington was preparing to defeat Napoleon at Waterloo. Auspicious times….but enough European history already!

The most important fact to remember about 1814 was that Jeremiah Colman took over a mustard manufacturing business and mustard in England was never to be the same again. With the zesty blend of high-quality brown mustard seeds (Brassica Juncea) and white mustard seeds (Sinapis Alba) grown and harvested locally around Norwich, Colman’s transcended to be much more than a condiment, it was a bold and spicy staple that captured the hearts and taste buds of a country. For nearly 200 years, we have delivered the finest quality, gourmet spicy mustard, from farm to table, with a fresh and fiery kick that speaks to our time-honored process of mustard making.

I love to cook and try new recipes.  Ben Sr loves to cook too which is a huge bonus for me!!

A couple years ago we bought a Vitamix and we use it all the time. One of the recipes that came with it was a terrific tortilla soup.  It is yummy if you follow the recipe, but even better if you make it the way we do!!

Here is what you need.  Now mind you I am horrible at actually following exact measurements.  You can choose to follow them exactly, or do what I do which is wing it to your own tastebuds!!  You also do not need a Vitamix machine for this.  You can use a plain old pot on the stove!!

1 lb Hamburger (browned)
1 can White Kidney Beans
1 can Red Kidney Beans
1/2 Jar of Salsa
2 or 3 cups of corn
1 Package Taco Seasoning
Salt & Pepper to taste
8 Cups Of Beef Broth
2 teaspoons of Colman's Mustard Powder
2 Cups Tortilla Chips
1 Cup of Mushrooms (cooked)
1 Cup Sour Cream

After browning the hamburger and cooking the mushrooms, mix them in a pot with all of the ingredients except the chips and sour cream.  Bring the soup to a boil.  Pour in bowls, add a dollop of sour cream, and some crumbled tortilla chips on top and serve.

This is a very simple recipe, but absolutely delicious.  Using the Colman's mustard adds a great kick to the soup!!

We've used the mustard powder in other dishes too, and used the mustard itself on all sorts of sandwiches!!  It is delicious!!

Let me know if you give this recipe a try.  I would love to know what you think!!

Pines Mighty Greens Superfood Review

**All opinions expressed are 100% my own.  I was not compensated for this post.  I was given product for review.**

What can PINES Wheat Grass do for me?

Or put another way: what can eating enough green vegetables every day do for you?

Hundreds of private and government studies suggest that increased consumption of vegetables may reduce incidence of cancer and heart disease, and lead to fewer health problems across the board. However, if you are in among the 9 of every 10 people who fail to eat at least 3-5 servings of vegetables every day, you clearly could use a convenient source of greens.

PINES Wheat Grass is that source. In less than a minute a day and for about 25 cents, you can have a serving of a nutritious dark green vegetable. How is that possible? PINES Wheat Grass is nutritionally equivalent to a spinach salad, but much more concentrated.

How much more? Seven tablets or one teaspoon of powder supplies about the same nutrition as a serving of spinach.*

Our products are guaranteed, so give them a try for a month and see how you feel. If you’re not satisfied, we’ll refund your purchase price. It’s that simple.

We grow and process our products in rich glacial soils, and are owned by mostly local shareholders who share our goals about organic farming and stewardship of the land.  The majority of profits  go into wildlife refuges, converting land to organic farming and profit sharing with our employee community.

Ben and I are always trying to eat right and to help our kids learn good eating habits as well.  Of course it is hard to always remember to eat the recommended servings of veggies, dairy etc every day.  Plus there are days were you just don't have time, or want too!!

That's where things like vitamins and supplemental products come in handy.

Pines- The Wheat Grass People are here to help with their protein powder full of Wheatgrass, Alfalfa & Hemp.  This combination of ingredients is designed to help give you the daily nutrition you need and give you a natural boost of energy.

To use the powder, you can either mix it in water or juice, or use it in any recipe.  I find that it is easier to get the kids to eat it if it's in a recipe.  I have mixed it with everything from their macaroni and cheese, to mashed potatoes.  They never know it's there!!

Personally I don't mind the taste, but Ben was not a big fan of it with just water.  So I mix his with food too!!

Pines has other products including Barley powder, Beet Juice, and the Wheat grass and Barley in tablet form.

Check out their site to see what is best for you and your family to get the nutrients you need!!
