MY BABY IS ONE TODAY!!!!

I cant believe my baby is one year old!!!

Douglas is our second son. He was a surprise!!!

I had ALOT of problems with my first pregnancy. My oldest son Ben was born at only 28 weeks. He weighed 1 lbs 7 oz when he was born. I had Pre-eclampsia and HELLP syndrome. To sum it up, Ben had to be born when he was or we both would have died. I found out after he was born, that I actually died on the table twice and had to be shocked back. Just a little scary!!!

Ben spent 86 days in the NICU (neonatal intensive care unit) We went through every tube, test, and needle the hospital had.

It was a very rough time for us, and not something we thought we would ever do again.

Then one day, three years later we were surprised with news that we were going to have baby #2.

We weren't planning on it, and of course we were very very nervous.

From the start I was monitored constantly. I had four or more doctors appointments a week, with constant blood pressure monitoring. The early signs of Pre-eclampsia is high blood pressure.

We were very relieved to make it past the 28 week mark. Our excitement didn't last long though.

Doug was born at 29 weeks. With him, delivery was life threatening, but not as immediate as with Ben. I actually was awake for Doug's birth. With Ben I was knocked out cold.

Doug weighed in at 2 lbs 2.2 oz.

He spent 64 Days in the NICU. Doug didn't need as many tubes and tests as Ben did. We also knew what to expect, since we had been through it before, so things seemed easier.

Both my boys came home from the hospital weighing only 4 1/2 lbs. It was not something we had ever expected, but the outcome was well worth it.

These first two pictures are Ben in the hospital, and then Ben now.

These pictures are of Doug in the hospital and then now!!

As you can see they are both happy and healthy kids. All though there was a rough start for both, they are perfectly fine now!!!
Happy Birthday Doug!!!

Wow, what a story! Happy Birthday to your little man! I am a mom of a former preemie! My oldest daughter was born Oct 2006 at 29 weeks 6 days....due to a partial placental abruption....scary! She spent 8 weeks in NICU....weighed 4lb 3.5 oz and dropped to 3lb 7 oz.....her sister was born at 37 weeks (phew) and weighed 8lb! I am so glad you shared your story. I love hearing stories from moms who had preemies and to hear the progress of their little miracles!

Awesome 2 stories of your amazing miracles sons! My 3rd son was a triple miracle. He was born at 30 weeks and had a slim chance of making it and has gone through so much over the years! He is amazing too and will be 20 years on Thur. Hard to believe how fast they grow up! Enjoy your little men and Happy Birthday Doug!!!

Awww, happy birthday Doug!
I had pre-e with both of my pregnancies too. DD#1 was a 35 weeker and weighed 4lbs 11oz when she was born, on an apnea monitor for 6 months. My kidneys started failing with her. DD#2 wasn't so bad, she was considered full term @ 37 weeks 8lbs 2oz. The second one was cake compared to the first. Amazing whe how you get through the whole nicu experience isn't it? Looking back I don't know how I did it, but at the time you just did. You have a beautiful family!

Happy birthday! Your miracle boys are really beautiful and amazing. My son was born early at 33 weeks - compared to the other teeny preemies in the NICU, he seemed huge. People kept asking me if it's scary handling a tiny baby, but he didn't look tiny to me. I really enjoyed reading this post, it actually make me a bit teary-eyed.

Thanks for visiting on FF! This is a great blog, I'm following and I'll be back.
