OK guys I am ticked!!!
I went into Family Dollar twice and was told the same thing over and over again.
I had manufactures coupons for Clairol Hair Coloring. These coupons were $5 off any 2 products.
Family Dollar had Clairol Hair Dye on sale for $2.50 each. That meant with my coupon, I could get 2 for free.
The first time I went in, I was given the run around that the coupon wouldn't work because the Hair Dye I was picking up wasn't pictured on the coupon.
So I went home, printed out their coupon policy, which stated that they would accept coupons for any product even if the item wasn't pictured on the coupon.
When I went back to the store, again I was told NO to the coupon. Now their story changed.
I was told and I quote "We can not over-ride the computer for any coupon, even our own store coupons"
The manager went on to tell me, that they have to scan all coupons and most of the time, the coupon will NOT work. She also said that she was told by her District Manager not to over-ride the computer or she will be fired.
I went on to say how that is not acceptable practices when you accept manufactures coupons.
She told me she would call her DM and see what she has to say, and get back to me.
Here it is 3 days later, and still no call.
I don't like stores that don't play by the rules. So as of right now I am boycotting Family Dollar.
I also would like to know how to go about reporting them for their false coupon policy's. Does anyone know how I could go about doing that??
Sorry to rant, but I was/am ticked. I work very hard to save my family as much money as possible. I do it the proper way every time. I never cheat anyone, and I feel like I was cheated big time!!!

I would be ticked too!! Please let us know how it turns out.
Here's the link to customer service on their website.. http://familydollar.com/contactUs.aspx
and it has their executive offices address on there too.. I'd fill out both the comment form and send a letter and see what happens...
Make sure you include as much info as possible - store number, dates, anyone's names that you got... and scan and send a copy of the coupon you wanted to use in the mail...
Good luck!
I agree - I would be mad too - I am a big coupon clipper... What's strange is they get the money back from the manufacture! crazy.
Kelly
BTW - I would also send an email/letter to the manufacturer letting them know that your coupon was denied at Fam Dollar...
I had a similar incident at Harris Teeter for something equally stupid and the manufacturer was great enough to send me a coupon for freebies as well as additional coupons for their various products to try... they want you to use their coupons and they want stores to make it easy... so they need the feedback too (plus it gets you on their mailing list for extra coupons...)
I'd be angry too. I hate it when companies don't stick to their own policies. Good for you for calling them out on it.
Thank you all. I will let you know what happens when I get ahold of corporate!!! I appreciate the help!!!
Sarah
I've had problems at Family Dollar in the past. My manufacturer coupons for band aids wouldn't scan so they wouldn't take them because of that. I was so mad that I haven't shopped there again.
Hi Sarah,
I'm sorry to hear about your experience in a Family Dollar store this weekend. I work at the home office and would love to help you. Feel free to send me an email (kbray@familydollar.com) and I'll see what I can do to help.
booooo, not going there anymore!
Wal-Mart did that to me. I sent them a nasty letter!
I got no response. Then I wrote a letter to the manufacturer of the product and they sent me more coupons which TARGET gladly took, and so now I buy that specific product at TARGET, and I let everyone know that Wal-Mart DOES NOT accept Enfamil manufacturers coupons because they too cannot OVERRIDE their system (total lie, by the way--I worked at Wal-Mart).
