Since 1991, the federal government has designated October as Energy Awareness Month, and Best Buy makes it easy for you to find ENERGY STAR® certified products online and in our stores to help you save money on your energy costs.  We can also help you connect with local utility rebates on the energy-efficient products we use every day.

•ENERGY STAR is a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) voluntary program that helps businesses and individuals save money and protect our climate through superior energy efficiency.

When we went house shopping for our first home, we did not realize all the things you should be looking for and all the things you should avoid.  We just wanted a house that looked nice and was functional for us!!

We bought our 1920's house.  It is nice.  5 bedrooms, 1 1/2 baths, nice size rooms etc.  Some of the things we didn't pay much attention to were the windows, insulation, appliances, and wiring!!

With in the first week of owning the home, our stove had a gas leak and we were not allowed to have the gas turned back on until we bought a new stove.  No gas equaled no stove, no hot water, and no dryer.

We realized that knob and tube wiring is the WORST in the world!!   We blew fuses left and right.

We also found out that first winter how important newer windows and insulation is!!

These are all things you learn along the way, and we now know what to look for when we buy our next home.

Over the last 7 years, we have had to buy a new stove, new washer and dryer, new furnace, new windows, and recently a new fridge.  Everything completely broke down and did not work.  In the furnaces defense, it was older then dirt and so were the windows!!

Every appliance/window we have bought to replace the busted ones is ENERGY STAR rated!!  The furnace was the main reason why we are extremely happy to have ENERGY STAR products.  Our heating bill went from $1200 a month (yes you read that correctly!!) to only about $300 a month (even less most months.)  We also were given a couple of ENERGY STAR rebates for buying it, and a HUGE tax break on our taxes the next year.  The same went for the windows as well!!

•Beyond savings from simply having energy efficient products, local utility companies provide additional rebates that can save you up to $300.  To find rebates available in your area, check out the Best Buy online rebate finder here.

Best Buy has a terrific assortment of ENERGY STAR Appliances.  If you are in the market to save money, and who isn't, make sure you get ENERGY STAR products.  Trust me, it's worth it for your wallets sake!!!
