What To Expect The First Year Book Review

As a non-mother I was excited to read “What to Expect: The First Year” by H. Murkoff, S. Mazel, A. Eisenberg, and S. Hathaway, B.S.N. I have absolutely no clue what to expect when I someday become a mom and to have a book that breaks down the month by month changes that will happen with your baby is a huge help. Before reading this book my only knowledge of the first year is what I saw my nephews go through, so this book was a big help!

The book lists possible illnesses that your baby might encounter and what treatments you can give the child, which I loved because I personally would like to know what I should anticipate when going to the doctors. Not that I would recommend using this book as a sole tool for diagnosing your child’s illness.

The book also goes into details on topics like adoption and breast feeding and tips for the new mom to get the most enjoyment out of her child’s first year of life. My only complaint with this book is as a person reading it front to back it was a big read, a lot of medical terms, but when read month to month as the child grows the read would be more enjoyable.

I highly recommend this book for all new parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles, and anyone who has a new born child in their lives! It would make a great baby shower gift for the new mom!
