Allermates Review

for safer playdates

When my son was 10 months old, he turned purple after biting into a cashew. A few months later, he broke out into red, itchy hives after sampling his first egg. Next it was salmon. Lastly, (we hope) sesame was added to our list of foods he is alleric to. Having to monitor everything he ate was somewhat manageable when he was a baby and a toddler, but as he got older it became pretty obvious that protecting him fom his food allergies was going to be a challenge.

During his first year of preschool, one of his buddies with multiple food allergies as well, was given a snack containing an allergen, resulting in a severe reaction. Following that incident, the idea that my son could be at risk during everyday situations (i.e., school, camp, playdates) where the awareness of his allergies was not consistently reinforced became pretty scary. So I did what every mom I know does... I went shopping! I hunted for a practical yet fun accessory that my son cculd wear to serve as a constant reminder of what foods he was allergic to (and to give me some much needed peace of mind!). I shopped in stores, in catalogues and on-line. Needless to say, I just couldn’t find what I was looking for.

Enter... Allermates®.

With allergies on the rise and many of my friends and family members facing similar issues, I realized that there was a great need for kid friendly allergy awareness prcducts. I decided to create products that would not only help protect kids with allergies, but ones that would also make them feel good about themselves regarding their allergies. Products that were fun, colorful and let’s face it... “cool”. I noticed how most kids I knew, including my own, were absolutely fascinated by colorful characters. Next thing I knew, I was writing bios for fun, cartoon like allergen charcters that came to mind. And so P.Nutty and the rest of the gang were born.

I’m confident that the Allermates® images and stories will appeal to kids of all ages and make them feel good about themselves regarding their allergies. Most importantly, our products will help identify and safeguard kids with allergies and give their parents and caregivers some peace of mind.

I have a niece who has a lot of allergies.  She is only 3, so she isn't in school yet, but I worry about her for when she does go to school.

When I found the AllerMates site, I was soooo excited.  I knew they would be a big help for my niece!!
