At first this book was very very sad.

Silas was a young girl trying to escape a bad home life.

She runs into her friend Ian (who is much older) and he protects her for a night.

Of course the next day they are found, and the wrong assumptions are made.

Ian is forced to marry Silas. He is so angry about it that he runs off for five years before he comes home to deal with his wife.

When Ian arrives home, his life there as he knew it has changed dramatically. He needs to learn all over how to take care of his family.

Silas has had it rough. She was forced to marry, and become a wife to a man that didn't want her.

She has spent the last five years hoping for him to return, and when he does, it isn't the reunion that she expected.

I really liked how the characters grow to know each other again, and how they have to deal with a lot of problems that come along.

This was a great read, and I would love to read more from Margaret Mallory.
