Happy Memorial Day!!

Memorial Day is a United States federal holiday observed on the last Monday of May. Formerly known as Decoration Day, it commemorates U.S. Service Members who died while in the military service.[1] First enacted by an organization of Union veterans — the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR)[2] — to honor Union soldiers of the American Civil War. It was extended after World War I to honor Americans who have died in all wars.

Memorial Day often marks the start of the summer vacation season, and Labor Day its end.

Begun as a ritual of remembrance and reconciliation after the Civil War, by the early 20th century, Memorial Day was an occasion for more general expressions of memory, as ordinary people visited the graves of their deceased relatives, whether they had served in the military or not. It also became a long weekend increasingly devoted to shopping, family get-togethers, fireworks, trips to the beach, and national media events such as the Indianapolis 500 auto race, held since 1911 on the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend

I hope you take a moment to remember and thank everyone who has made this country great!!

Enjoy your day!!!

We are BBQing again!!! We can't pass up the nice weather and a chance for food!!!

Giani Granite Counter Top Paint Review And ~~Giveaway~~

Thomas & English, Inc. was founded by Floyd Thomas, Sr. - our current CEO's grandfather - and Bill English in 1959 as a Manufacturer's Rep firm.

The two men operated a 9,000 square foot warehouse and provided specialty raw materials to paint manufacturers in St. Louis, MO for 26 years.

In 1985 a change in ownership began an era of significant growth. Eagle Specialty Products, Inc. began manufacturing pigment dispersions and specialty additives for paint companies nationwide.

Over time, the company became experts in dispersions for technical coatings for customers such as the US Navy.

Today, Eagle and its GIANI, Inc. subsidiary, has two hundred specialty pigment dispersions and has won awards for its unique kitchen coatings

that are changing the way America remodels its kitchens! . . .

I was soooo excited to get to work with Giani.

I have seen other counter tops done with Giani Paint before, but I couldn't believe that mine would look good.

As you can see below, I had horrible white laminate counter tops.

They showed all dirt, scratches, stains etc. I hated them!!!

Ben and I choose the Sicilian Sand paint to update our counters!!

Please ignore our hideous cabinets!!! I need new ones badly!!

To start the project, you use a base coat of black paint.

We actually really liked the black as it was!!! We were very tempted to leave it!!!

After the black dries for a while, then the fun starts!!

With our kit, we were given three different colors to blend together (White, Gold and Brown)

You are given a sponge to dab the colors on with.

I let Ben dab, and I went back through and blended the colors more.

This was sooo much fun for us!!! Of course we did this after the kids were in bed!!

We made a couple boo boos with the back splash. It was really hard to get in that small area.

With a little elbow greece and mineral spirts, the errors were corrected!!

After all the colors were blended, we waited a couple hours before we could put the top coats on!!

Finally our counters were done!!

Don't they look gorgeous??

We absolutely love them. They look just like Granite.

If your kitchen needs a face lift, this is the perfect way.

Each kit costs $69.95 and covers 35sq feet.

There are 6 color kits to choose from, but 100's of different color schemes.

No two counter tops will look the same!!!

I am extremely excited to be able to give one lucky reader new counters!!!

Giani has generously offered to give one of you a complete set in the color of your choosing!!!

Parents Keep Childs Gender A Secret.

A friend of mine sent me this article, and I don't know what to make of this. What do you think??

Parents keep child’s gender under wraps

By Zachary Roth

When many couples have a baby, they send out an email to family and friends that fills them in on the key details: name, gender, birth weight, that sort of thing. (You know the drill: "Both Mom and little Ethan are doing great!")

But the email sent recently by Kathy Witterick and David Stocker of Toronto, Canada to announce the birth of their baby, Storm, was missing one important piece of information. "We've decided not to share Storm's sex for now--a tribute to freedom and choice in place of limitation, a stand up to what the world could become in Storm's lifetime (a more progressive place? ...)," it said.

That's right. They're not saying whether Storm is a boy or a girl.

There's nothing ambiguous about the baby's genitals. But as Stocker puts it: "If you really want to get to know someone, you don't ask what's between their legs." So only the parents, their two other children (both boys), a close friend, and the two midwives who helped deliver the now 4-month-old baby know its gender. Even the grandparents have been left in the dark.

Stocker and Witterick say the decision gives Storm the freedom to choose who he or she wants to be. "What we noticed is that parents make so many choices for their children. It's obnoxious," adds Stocker, a teacher at an alternative school.

They say that kids receive messages from society that encourage them to fit into existing boxes, including with regard to gender. "We thought that if we delayed sharing that information, in this case hopefully, we might knock off a couple million of those messages by the time that Storm decides Storm would like to share," says Witterick.

"In fact, in not telling the gender of my precious baby, I am saying to the world, 'Please can you just let Storm discover for him/herself what s (he) wants to be?!." she wrote in an email.

How did Stocker and Witterick decide to keep Storm's gender under wraps? During Witterick's pregnancy, her son Jazz was having "intense" experiences with his own gender. "I was feeling like I needed some good parenting skills to support him through that," Witterick said.

Stocker came across a book from 1978, titled X: A Fabulous Child's Story by Lois Gould. X is raised as neither a boy or girl, and grows up to be a happy and well-adjusted child.

"It became so compelling it was almost like, How could we not?" Witterick said.

The couple's other two children, Jazz and Kio, haven't escaped their parents' unconventional approach to parenting. Though they're only 5 and 2, they're allowed to pick out their own clothes in the boys and girls sections of stores and decide whether to cut their hair or let it grow.

Both boys are "unschooled," a version of homeschooling, which promotes putting a child's curiosity at the center of his or her education. As Witterick puts it, it's "not something that happens by rote from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays in a building with a group of same-age people, planned, implemented and assessed by someone else."

Because Jazz and Kio wear pink and have long hair, they're frequently assumed to be girls, according to Stocker. He said he and Witterick don't correct people--they leave it to the kids to do it if they want to.

But Stocker and Witterick's choices haven't always made life easy for their kids. Though Jazz likes dressing as a girl, he doesn't seem to want to be mistaken for one. He recently asked his mother to let the leaders of a nature center know that he's a boy. And he chose not to attend a conventional school because of the questions about his gender. Asked whether that upsets him, Jazz nodded.

As for his mother, she's not giving up the crusade against the tyranny of assigned gender roles. "Everyone keeps asking us, 'When will this end?'" she said. "And we always turn the question back. Yeah, when will this end? When will we live in a world where people can make choices to be whoever they are?"

5 Reasons Why I Dislike Spring!!

1. ANTS, ANTS, ANTS!!! Those little sugar ants are all over my house. I had Ben spray the outside and inside three days ago, but because of all the rain, they are still coming in. I can handle lots of different bugs, but those sugar ants just gross me out.

2. DANDELIONS!!! For the short couple hours that we don't have rain, the whites are blowing all over the place, and making me sneeze and sneeze!!

3. RAIN!!! For the last week and a half, all it's done is rain. Oh and guess what?? It is supposed to continue all week!!! Our grass is waist high, and we can't cut it because it is always wet!!

4. SPRING CLEANING!!!! I absolutely love the way the house is once I am done, but with two kids, it doesn't last!!! I am trying to figure out why I even bother!!!

5. LONGER DAYS!!! I know, I should be happy about more daylight, but here's the catch. More daylight means more work. My five year old thinks he goes to bed when it's dark, and gets up when the sun does. So now those two hours of freedom I used to have are gone!! Plus for some strange reason I am not getting anything more accomplished with those extra day light hours then I did during the winter. Why is that??

I am sorry to rant, but it has been one of those days!!! lol
